Whats the Big Deal with the Dock-A-Tot?

    February 25, 2018

What is the big deal with the Dock-a-Tot?? Let me tell ya…

Alright people, what is all the fuss about this fancy new baby gadget called the Dock-a-Tot? Odds are if you ran into a group of pregnant ladies (what would you call that…like a gaggle?), if you ran into a gaggle of pregnant ladies they would probably be talking about the Dock…and maybe pizza.

What is it? The Dock-A-Tot is a multi-functional lounger, co-sleeper and playtime lounger. It comes in two sizes, the Deluxe (0-8months) and the Grand (9-36months). It is 100% cotton and tested for breathability. It comes in white and also a variety of completely adorable prints! We have the Pristine in both sizes like the photo below! Ok enough about the details…

When I posted a photo of Coco sleeping in her Dock-a-Tot (photo below…swoon!!) I got so many questions from expecting mamas asking if they needed one! It is a slight investment and people want to know if it’s worth it.

I’ll start off by saying YES. Yes, I believe it is totally worth it.

The next question I get is “do I NEED it?” I would call this a second tier need. Let me explain. When I am thinking about purchasing something I always ask myself if I WANT it or if I NEED it. Do you need a Dock-a-Tot to survive with a baby, like you can’t do it without one? Technically, no. Do you need one because it will seriously make your life easier and quite possibly help them sleep an insane amount of consecutive hours so you feel like a human again? YES. Yes, you do. While I don’t put this need on the “first tier needs” like diapers, wipes and bottles, it is FIRST PLACE on that second tier of the absolute next thing you need to buy.

WHY? Im glad you asked! Here is why I fell in love with that pillow-y bed that I wish came in my size.

We started with the deluxe Dock-A-Tot which is the smaller size for 0-8 months. I LOVED that she could sleep with us those first few weeks and do so safely! We actually aren’t a co-sleeping family, it just doesn’t work for us, but during those first few weeks we always have baby with us in our room. With Wyatt, he was in a bassinet by our bed because there wasn’t a way to safely co-sleep with him. With Coco, we put her right in between us so I could easily soothe her in the night. Kevin could just sit up in bed, pluck her from her Dock to changer her and then when I was done feeding her I would lay her right next to me and lay back down. SO MUCH EASIER. Plus she was sleeping 10-13 hours in it! HELLO PEOPLE, sleeping baby!!! Review OVER, thats all ya need!

    JK.

That alone was enough for me to fall in love with this thing though. Moving on…

With Coco being my second born, I needed to lay her down much more while I helped Wyatt with things. I loved having this light little lounger that I could take around the house with me for a safe place to put her! I use to drag a huge swing or bouncer around with Wyatt. This was so much easier! I would put her in the bathroom with me while I showered, lay her next to us on the sofa while we watched a movie or in Wyatt’s room while we got ready for the day. Worth it!

Taking this when we traveled was just so much freaking easier than a pack-n-play! We traveled a few times before she was 6 months old and having the Dock with us simplified our travel so much. We would take it on the beach with us, set it on a lounge chair with us by the pool and use it as a clean/safe place for her to play in the hotel room. Plus, the cover is remove-able and you can just throw that puppy in the wash when you get home! Worth it!

Initially we transferred her to her own room and crib with the Dock-A-Tot but immediately pulled it out when the company said they were not safe for use in a crib or bassinet. Safety in sleeping for babies is so important. The transition was a little rough because she was use to it being there and snuggling her, but it didn’t take long at all to get her used to her crib. Babies little lives are full of transitions and I don’t think that it was too hard to remove it. We still used it a ton for lounging and when we traveled even though she wasn’t using it at night because we don’t co-sleep.

We received the Grand compliments of Dock-A-Tot when she was 9 months old and she literally loves this thing.   We have it out in our living room and she crawls all over it and plays. She drinks her bottles in it before naps and bedtime and snuggles brother all the time! We take it to Wyatt’s tee ball games and she naps in the back of my SUV and I can sit next to her and watch the game! Second born kids are always at the mercy of the older siblings schedules so it makes napping on the go easier!

I love it. I’d buy it again. And againg and again! It made my life so much easier and to me that makes it worth every penny!
