When it rains it pours and when it floods…you remodel!!

My husband had gone out of town for work so the kids and I were on our own for a few days. As I was bathing them one evening I kept hearing water running in the bathroom, which was odd because there was no water on. I shrugged it off.

It kept running. And running. So I called my dad and told him I hear a hissing sound behind our vanity in the kids bathroom. This was at 7pm at night and he said, “ill be right over”

Thank goodness for Dads to the rescue. Long story short we figured out we had a slab leak! The water was pouring out of a burst pipe underneath the slab of our house! For the next two days I had no running water to my house with an out of town husband and two kids. It was definitely an adventure!

I had been wanting to redo this bathroom for quite some time, it had the prefab bathtub that went 3/4 of the way up the wall and the tile we had put in would be SO dirty and grungy no matter how many times I cleaned it.

    PERFECT EXCUSE!

I will say, a HUGE reason, well the only reason we could do it was because we had Kirk! (thats my dad). Things tend to escalate quickly, what started as ‘ok lets replace the tile and the tub’ turned into tearing the bathroom down to the studs and raising the ceiling. One of Kirk’s mottos is “if you are gonna do, then do it right”. I had mentioned that I wanted shiplap and small subway tiles and was met with an eye roll…but he did it!

It truly amazes me how he can just whip up a bathroom like its no big deal. He does drywall, texture, lighting, electrical, paint, plumbing, tile…and he just teaches himself! So obviously it saves us SO MUCH money not having to hire someone and the bonus is that I love having him around my house everyday. Even if he is blasting electric guitar youtube videos while my babies sleep. LOL

So here at the photos of the bathroom when we moved in Jan 2010.

The house had been unoccupied for 8 years when we bought it so everything was super dated and old! We did a quick update to it that year with a prefab vanity, pained and taking down that shower door (that didn’t even slide without the most ear piercing sounds) and putting up a curtain.

    so. much. brown.

I don’t know why I painted my entire house brown when we first bought it. I was 23 and had no idea how to pick paint. I have learned since then and my style has definitely evolved!!

Here is my dad at 730pm making a house call for my leaking sounds, Wyatt likes to help. Below that is the hole after the plumber came to find the leak. I MEAN look at that hole! Of course we had to tear apart the whole bathroom…right?? right?

So the plan with the new bathroom was lighten and brighten! I think we nailed it. I love the shiplap on the wall, the shower tiles are just my favorite, the flooring is light but brings character, the vanity is the same one in white, same toilet, added canned lighting, and raised the roof (whoop whoop!) over the shower, new paint and NO LEAK!

    Here is the new bathroom!!

Thanks dad for all your help!!
